Naturally occurring degradation of crude oil in soil can take up to hundreds of years, leaving the area uninhabitable and toxic. Bioremediation enhances the degradation of otherwise toxic compounds using bioaugmentation (addition of bacterial culture) and biostimulation (nutrients) methods. Our patent-pending technology employs bioaugmentation techniques that use the metabolism of microbes to degrade contaminants such as crude oil, and including parafinns, chlorinated solvents, aromatics, aliphatic, naphthalenes, straight-chained and branched alkanes and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). These hydrocarbons naturally undergo a process in which long hydrocarbon chains are slowly broken down into the next smaller compounds. This process will continue until the long hydrocarbon chain has been reduced to PAHs. PAHs are insoluble pollutants that are known to be toxic, mutagenic, carcinogenic and teratogenic. Microbes utilize the PAH compound in their own metabolic processes and as a food source. These specialized microbes metabolize hydrocarbons removing these toxic PAH compounds from the environment. The discovery of naturally occurring oil-degrading bacteria has sparked the interests of many scientists. Through the re-introduction of oil-degrading bacteria to condition specific sites of crude oil contamination, one can provide a fast and natural means to rid the environment of contaminants. Scientists at Altogen Labs have successfully isolated several strains of newly discovered and characterized bacteria. This bacterium has been proven to effectively accelerate the degradation of crude oil spills.

Bioaugmentation

Bioaugmentation is the term used to refer to the introduction or re-introduction of natural microorganisms or genetically engineered variants used to enhance the bioremediation of contaminated soil or water. Our microorganisms have been shown to have highly efficient bioremediation of natural crude oil and petroleum in soil based environments in both laboratory and field tests. Benefits of bioaugmentation include: Easy to handle, maintain and distribute Environmentally friendly, significantly lower environmental impact than alternative approaches Non-toxic to environment Low maintenance and high efficacy Proven to reduce chlorinated solvents, hydrocarbons and PAHs Increased biodegradation rates Professional and experienced staff to assist in application design, technical support, and cost estimates

Isolation and Selection Techniques

We have developed unique techniques to isolate and select for natural biodegrading bacteria found in land and water environments. Such organisms are applicable to the degradation of such compounds as hydrocarbon-contaminated soil and liquids (oil, benzene, dichloroethylene, petroleum, toluene, pesticides and other chemically manufactured wastes and spills).

Pricing

The competitive advantage of using our bacterium is the low volume, high concentration of our product. Our products remain viable, stable, and easily activated in this dehydrated state. With the simple addition of water our product is activated and ready to apply. Pricing is based on the contamination clean up needs. Features such as the nature of the spill, size, age, concentration of oil, type of crude oil, environmental conditions, and type of soil are key to determining required amount of product and associated cost. Please contact us at orders@soil-bio-remediation.com with information on site location, size and type of spill, etc).
